OUTBREAK DANGEROUSLY NEAR HONGPS TRACK DAMAGE NOT ANTICIPATED Early last evening, a bush fire, wh'ch had spread along the shores of Lake Roto-ehu toward Roto-iti, was reported to be approaching the vicinity of Hongi' s track, but owing to the fact that there was a break in the bush line, it was not anticipated that the flames would spread to the famous scenic bush of the track. Two telegraph poles were burned out by the fire, temporarily interrupting communication, but speedy repairs were made and by 8 p.m. lhst evening the lines had been restored At 8 o'clock the flames were within half a mile of the Roto-ehu end of tho track, but were spreading round the lake shore away from the big timber near the road.
