COUNTY WORK

ABSORBING DISCHARGED PUBLIC WORKS MEN. When the Rotorua County Couneil, it its meeting yesterday, received a t legram from the Minister of Public Works (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates), advising that all local body authorities for loan expenditure had been cancelled from March 4, it was decided to make representations to the D: - oartment suggesting that men reeently discharged from public works in the iistriet should be utilised to carry out works which would otherwise not be ione under the lately existing authorities. It was pointed out that the Public Works Department employees who would be transfcrred to unemployment work, could be given employment in developing access roads, and that if they could be used to carry out the work originally intended un'der the cancelled authorities, they would be given work and at the same time used in developing necessary roads. A resolution embodying these suggestions is to be forwarded to the Department.
