To the Editor. Sir, — Re the selection of the Rotorua members of the Bay of Plenty team, ffiallengers for the Hawke Cup v. the South Auckland representatives, to be played in Seddon Park at Easter.

'I cannot understand why Godsalve, Harding and one or two other players have been left out of the team, and H'nton, Burton and Hampson were put in. I venture to say without fear of contradiction that although Godsalve may be approaching the veteran stage, he is the best all-rounder In the Bay, and Harding is a very close second. To my idea, the two players mentioned should have been amongst the first three selected. I am given to understand from good authority that both men are availabte and also are qualified by association rules to be el;gible for selection. I take it that when a team enters a challenge they will select the best material available to represent their Association, and I may say they will require their best if they wish to be successful, as they will be pitted against a hard proposition in the South Auckland team, who will be playing on their home ground and also on a turf wicket, which is entirely different from matting. I would like to offer a suggestion to the selectors with regard to their umpire. I tlrnk they would be wise to select Clarke, of High School fame, who, I am quite sure, would hold his end up. — I am, etc.,
