FIELDS REVIEWED

ACCEPTANCES FOR TO-DAY PROMISE GOOD RACING PROSPSCTS DISCUSSED

(Special to "Post" by '

It is too much to expect large fields at all meetings these days, but nevertheless the aeceptanees received for to-day at the opening at Green- " meadows of the Napier Park fixture are quite good.,and will be productive of interesting contests. There are sevej* .events on to-day's eard. Proceedings will open with the Omarunui Hurdles, with a field of seven, m.any of them novices at the jumping game. Royal Lineage should make a fine jumper, and King Wanga too ought to make good, for good sprinters can generally be depended upon to be successes over short hurdle journeys. Tall Timber has won at Gisborne, and Gay Lass, Ex Dono, Crown L;nk and Lochaby must have chances in this field. Although Royal Ir'neage may want a race, he is a e'ass above King Wanga and Tall Timber. the latter's public form over the battens entitling him to most support. Esk Hack There is more form to go upon in the Esk Haek, for several of the seven acceptors are recent winners. Imperial Fame has put up some good efforts of late. Royal Hunting is baek again, and if thoroughly tuned up should make it interesting. Sabatini is at last fulfilling his early promise, .while Thrasher might do better over a slightly longer journey. False Scent is always likely, and Chief Clerk, with a strong rider is capable of beating better than those he will meet here. The three at the top — Imperial Fame, Sabatini and Thrasher — please most, with Royal Hunting the danger if ready. T wo- Y ear-OIds The best field of the day is in the two-year-old race, the Sapling Stakes. Princess Bell had a strenuous t:me over the holidav period, but now that she has had time to freshen up she reads verv well. Chief Marionette has a fine record for consistency , , gained on the Taranaki circuit, where she displayed rare gameness in all her races. She is a sticker, and with a long straight would be hard to beat in any juvenile company. Speed and Slinperv raced well during the holi;davs, and reasonable imnrovement would make them stiff propositions for the two at the top to tackle. Marais has a lot of pace, and Mar-p-oret Rose shows promise. Among the others there are one or two capable of surpris'ng if they reproduce track form. However, the issue appears to lie between the better of Princess Bell and Chief Marionette. with Speed and Slippery. always handy. Cup Prospects If Star Stranger was a shadow of h^s old self the Napier Cup would present little difficulty to him with his luxurious imnost. But he can hardly be ready. Esteem when in the mo'od is goodi ai^i Chrysology has yet to go the dist&n'ce, although there is no reason why he shouldn't. Shrewd followed up two seconds at Hawera by winning in better company at Wanganui, and this form reads verv good in this company. Malahat will be a better proposition when he strikes a soft track. Pewa reaopears again, and with a race into him he may be dangerous, for he ought to be gett'ng more solid. Grand Lahu has possibilities. Shrewd, Esteem and Malahat make most appeal. Autumn Handicap Toxeuma is not weighted out of the Autumn Handicap, and if at his best he would have no difficulty whatever in disposing of Moa Bird at a difference of only 51b. The latter is badly treated at that, but she is in form, and the top-weight can hardly be at his best yet. Teller has been running on at the end of his races, and so has Chief Cook. This quartet appear to be the pick of the field, with Moa Bird, Teller and Toxeuma the best. There is very little form to go upon in the Maiden Scurry, and local track work should provide the best guide. Shenanikida and Gold Ruler are fair sorts, and if there is no "springer" in the field they should fight out the issue.

Open Contest The concluding race this afternoon is the Redcliffe Hack. Blacksmith raced prominently for a fourth and win at Pahiatua before going on to win three hurdle races at Hawera and New Plymouth, so he is in good form. Monarchy, Laconic, Rapallo, the disappointing Jenny Diver, Lady Spy, In Vain, Baskier. and the staying Anenometer will all help to make it an open and interesting contest. Monarchy, Blacksmith and In Vain should be the best.
