Taupo-National Park Highway.
Nejv by-laws for the control of the Taupo-National Park main highway have been made by the Main High ways Board and gazetted. These provide that during the period May 1 to September 30 the gross weight of any vehicle engaged in heavy traffic shall not, during wet weather, or within 12 hours thereafter, exceed three tons. The weight of the load of any Vehicle may, for the purposes of the by-law, be computed from the cubical or superficial measurements of such load and a schedule of the weight-equiv-. alent of a number of kinds of goods commonly carried is appended. Sledging and the use of tyre-chains on the road are absolutely prohibited. The penalty for a breach of the by-laws is.fixed at a maximum'of £5.
