LOW SCORING A FEATURE OF GAMES PLAYED ON SATURDAY OLD BOYS' LAX FIELDING Albion gained a first innings lead of 53 runs over the Old Boys' eleven in the match which was commenced at the Government Grounds on Saturday. It was only shocking "catching" on the part of the Old Boys, however, which enabled Albion to reach 140 runs in their first innings. No less than seven catches, most of which were simple chanees, were dropped. Three chances were accepted, two of these being taken by Albion players who were fielding as substitutes. Hinton, Wallis and Lenihan batted well for Albion, while Sutherland hit has customary "sixer." When six wickets were down for 75 runs, a good partnership between Lenihan and Wallis retrieved the position, and then Hampson and Webb added 20 runs for the last wicket. J A good partnership between Musgrave (26) and Matthews (35) which yielded 54 runs, was the outstanding feature of the Old Boys' innings. Both players batted well using good shots on both sides of the wicket. After they had been dismissed a rot set in however, Sutherland and Lenihan going through the tail in quick time. With three wickets down for 78 runs the whole side was out for 87. Albion had scored 19 runs for one wicket in the second innings when stumps were drawn for the. day. City's Total Passed Ngongotaha won the toss in their natch against City and sent the latter to the wickets. The start was dlsastrous for City, two wickets fall:.ng for no runs, Corbett being run out and Hewson bowled by Beaumont. The next wicket partnership, however, added 30 runs before a separation was effected, Harding being bowled by Harris. Godsalve was batting in good form and with the assistance of Alexander, took the total to 62 runs before the last wicket fell. The last three batsmen had failed to open their account, and playing two slicit, the innings closed when eight wickets had fallen. Godsalve's score of 41 runs included three fours and one six. Beaumont, who was bowling well for Ngongotaha, took five wickets for 25 runs, his off-breakers being made more tricky by the assistance of a cross wind. Ngongotaha's opening was as unprofitable as that of their opponents, the first wicket falling for three runs and the/ second when the total was 13. Craig, however, stopped the rot and assisted in taking the score to 35 where two further wickets fell without addition to the total. Beaumont was the only other batsman to reach double figures, his contribution being 18 runs. The tail enders survived long enough, however, to pass the City total and at close of play Ngongotaha were all out for 77 runs.
