Divorce in Old Egypt.
Spairi's liberal divorce law, enacted a short time ago by the Constitutional Assembly, had its counteyp.art in anqient E'gypt. A study made by W. F. Fdgerton and recently published by the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, shows that Egyptian marriages could be dissolved at the will of either the husband or the wife. Furthermore, provision was sometimes made for "trial" marriages — that is, marriages which were in force only for a flefinite period, agreed upon in advaipce. There was no cererhony, thq study says, and no licerise to be obtained from either Church or State.
