HIGH SCHOOL ASSNL " ANNUAL MEETING HELD ;;PLANS FOR COMING YEAR The annual general meeting of the Rotorua High School Old Pupils' Association was held last evening at the High School, 28 members being present. Mr. J. E. Learning took the chhir in the absence of the president, Mr. A. R. Ryder. The main business was the election of officers, but several ixnportant xnatters were also discufssed. ;The annual report was read by the se&retary, Miss Devin, and formally adopted. The treasurer, Mr. G. Rosser, read the balance sheet. He reported a credit balance for the year of £8 5s 7d. The chairman stated that this was Very creditable in view of the bad times, and the fact that the annual ball resulted in a defieit of almost £7. Tho balance sheet was ajopted. ;It was decided to instruct the secretary to send a letter of thanks to the secretary of the New Plymouth High School' Old Boys' Association, for an invitation to the Rotorua Association, to send a representative to tKeir jubilee celebrations at Easter. A1 letter of thanlcs is also to be sent tq. Mr. W. J. Harwood, in response to hjs, assurance of his assistance and good wi'shes to the association. A letter was read from an old boy in Mr. C. Mclsaac, expressing his good wishes to the association for the coming year. It was decided to send a letter of thanks. It was also decided to send a vote. of thanks to Mrs. Devin for the use of her sitting room, for meetings of the executive. Secretaries Resign The resignations of Miss N. Devin and Mr. G. Rosser of their positions as secretaries were reeeived. Mr. Rosser also resigned his position as treasurer. It was decided to refer the following recommendations from the annual report to the incoming executive for jconsideration : — (1) That only such candidates as were prepared to attend regularly at meetings, should be allowed to be proposed as members of the committee; (2) that the number of active members of the association should be increased as far as possible; (3) that a cup should be procured, when finance was available, for competition between relay teams representing the school and the old pupils. General touics then came up for discussion. The secretary was instructed to extend hearty eongratulations to Mr. R. G. Webb and the school shooting team on their success in the "Weekly Press" challenge shield eompetition. A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing secretaries i and treasurer. "" Old School Pupils
Discussion was then invited regarding the proposed amalgamation of old pupils of the Rotorua District High School with the association. Mr. Webb said that nothing could be done without the consent of Mr. Harwood, tlio new headmaster. The two schools had strong ties of union between them. It remained for the meeting to come to a decision one wav or the other, to give the committee something to work on. He thought that there were certain of those concerned who could not be admitted to tfie association. Mr. J. Hinton s.peakine for the members of the old District High School, said that no association had been f C'med of old pupils of the old school for variou? reasons. Mr. Ryder had been strongly against any amalgamation when approached. The meeting decided tc leave the matter in the hands of the executive, and recommended that the number of members admitted, if any be limited, as the committee might deci.de. Mr. Webb' made an appeal for greater support for the executive from the ordinary members, at the same time thanking those who had given their support. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows: — President, Mr. W. J. Harwood; vice-presi-dents, Miss E. A. Simmers and Mr R.~ G. Webb ; girls' secretary, Miss T J-ohnson; boys' secretary, Mr. A. Cottrell; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. P. Gainsford; hon. auditor, Mr. J. A Speer; committee: girls, Misses Devin, Hale, Steeie and Bates; boys, Messrs Dawson, Matthews, G. Gainsford ancl Godsalve: Auckland representatives Miss M. Bertram and Mr. T. A. Carnachan ; magazine editors, Misses P Brooker and C. Sharpe, and Messrs. G. Rosser and C. W. Randerson.
