NARROW ESCAPE

CAR PRECIPITATED 150 FEET OVER STEEP BANK 1 An Auckland commercial traveller, Mr. L. Piper, had a very narrow escape from death or serious injury over the week-end, when a car which he was driving crashed over an 150 feet bank on the Rotoma Road. Mr. Piper was passing another car and move3 well over to the side of the road. Apparently, however, the surfaee had been softened to such an extent by the heavy rain that the , edge of the bank gave way and preeipitated the car down the slope. Fortunately, Mr. Piper perceived his danger in the nick of time and jumped out of the car to save himself. The machine was completely wrecked.
