LEADER INSULTED
WOMAN CAUSES STIR AS NEW GUARD LEAVE COURT. WEPT WHEN CHARGED. SYDNEY. At the lunch-time adjournment of the New Guard case at the Central Court, a middle-aged woman pushed her way through the crowds as Col. Campbell was leaving the court and called him an offensive name. Inspector Weir and uniformed police were nearby, when Col. Campbell, accompanied by Mr. Lamb, K.C., and members of the New Guard, came out. "Let me see this Mussolini." said the woman. | Confronting the New Guard leader, she said, "You mongrel!" She then made off down the street, but two police followed and arrested her. | Colonel Campbell asked the police to take no action, but Inspector Weir said, "We can't tolerate that in a public street." When the police brought the woman back she turned to Colonel Campbell and said, "And so you are, too!" When she was charged with offensive behaviour she broke down and wept. A woman was brought into court, charged with having used insulting words to Colonel Campbell. She was a first offender, and the case was heard in camera.
