NEW AMERICAN SECT HOPES TO CREATE NEW RACE. DRIVEN OUT OF BftSTON. A little hamlet has become the headquarters of a new semi-religiotfs mov$ment which was driven out of ultra-respectable Boston by jeers and active hostility of. the community. This society — like most crank movements — is run by very wealthy people, and the members are all extremely well to-do. They hope to create a new race of-i perfect young men and women. It is called "The Society for the Perfection of Man," and here are the rules: (1) Members must pass the medical test of the soCiety's physician and agree to a thorough examination every year. (2) no member may marry outside the society and may only marry another member with the sanction of the committee. (3) j
No married members may have niore than two children. (4) Every member of whatever age must undergo physical training two mornings every week. (5) W6men may' not dring intoxicating liquor, and mothers with infant children may not smoke, use cosmetics, or dance. (6) Men must allow their hair fo grow in its natural way, and shaving is forbidden. (7) All children must remain naked until their twelfth birthday, when they will wear garments prescribed by the society. (8) No member is allowed to be photographed uhless for the express pfirpo'Se of aidi'ng the society's medical officer in his work. (9) Sitting on chairs and stools is contrary to the aims of the society, except for the" aged. (10) Every member shall dririk six quarts of water per day and eat at least 51b o'f fresh fruit. "In twenty years from how," the woman leader of the sect said, "we shall have a group' of young men here who will be as perfect as it is possible for the male to be, while the young women will be the most perfect woj men in the world.
