TWO MEN SENTENCED TO 5 i YEARS' HARD LABOUR INVERCARGILL, Friday. Maurice Patrick Duffy and William . Leonard Brewer were sentenced by Mr. Justice Kennedy to 51 years' hard labour for breaking and entering the dwelling of the banlc manager at Edendale. His Honour said accused entered the house maslced, with a ioaded rifle and a sandbag, and the manager and his wife were attacked. Dufly had been pursuing a criminal course for some time, and the attaclc was very violent. He carried a loaded rifle, with which he threatened the manager and his wife, and attempted to gag the latter. His Honour said that Duff's past record showed that this crime did not\stand alone. Both the sentences were concurrent with other sentences.
