Mr. Cosgrave hps cojnplained of the vagary of proportional representation, but has reason now to hless it, because it ehabled some of his candjdates to scrape home neajr the bottonjL of the poll. The total the Government polled in North Dublin w.a.s 3, 6, .000, against de Valera's party's 25,000 votes. The liighest votes polled in fh,e wholeFree State were for .Cosgrave. Nevertheless the Government candid.ntes appear to have dropped votes .almost everywhere. " Elect.o.rs rewarded Labour's allfance with the Republi- ' cans by a defeat of many Lah.o.up j candidates. All Conjniunist can'didates were rejected. - = The RepubJicans have gained two seats from the Government, two from the Independents' and one from SLabour.'
