NEW COMMISSIONS PROCEDURE TO BE MADE AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE ALL MEETINGS IN PRIVATE

The appointment of 11 Adjustment ■ Commissions, each consisting of three members for the purpose of assisting the Court in dealing with adjustments of mortgages and generally' adjustiiig settlement between mortgagees and mortgagors, is
Mr. Cobbe. announced by the Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe. The appointments were made under. the recent Mortgagors' Relief Leg'islation. The'procedure said Mr. Cobbe has been made as simple as possible 'in order that any person may appear before the Commission and have his or her case f ully investigated without the necessity of employing counsel. 'ihe meetings will be held in private and the publication of the reports of the meetings and all decisions is prohibited. The Act applies to mortgages of land and chattels, that is, stock, implements, ete., executed on or before April 17, 1931, but does not apply to mOrtgages of "intangible property, such as company shares. Great carp has been exercised in selecting the members of the various commissions, to ensure that only men of ' common sense and wide experience , cspecially in connection with farming, are appointed. It is hoped that ih most cases the Commission will be1 successful in bringing about voluntary settlement between mortgagees and mortgagors. The Auckland Commission is as follows: Messrs. F. F. Hockly (Auckland), chairman; Stanley Buttle (Auckland), and Colone} L. Aldred (Waiuku).
