WHAKATANE TRAGEDY well known resident drops dead after swimmXng • FATALITY AT THE HEADS

— ' WHAKATANE, Sunday. The death occurred this afternoon of -Mr. Huntrey Arnold Prideaux, aged 67 years, at the Whakatane Heads. Mr. Prideaux was very '"fond of swimming ahd was seen to enter the water, and come out about 1.30 p.m, While getting into his clothes he had a f ainting attack- and felh • •? He ®d not recover cOnsciousness. Dr. J. C, Wadmore attended deceased, and stated death was due to heart disease, The doctor expressed the .opinion that deceased must have over-exetted Kfni. self. ; Mr. Prideaux was well known in Whakatane and Stratford. The late Mr.- Prideaux was born , (n Barbadoes, where his father -was headmaster of the Codrington College Deceased had had a varied career in Barbadoes, England and later in New Zealand. ' He was fof some time engaged at the Government Freezing wbrks At- Patea ahd by the Stratford Go-'operative Dairy Com. pany. ' 1 'M He arrived in Whakatane 12 years ago, and since then has taken a keen interest- in all sports, espeeially of an aquatic nature. -He was librarian for the- past eight years, and during that period he reorganised the library completely. Uhtil recently he was honorary secretary and treasurer -of the Whakatane Beautifying Society. He is survived b.y his widow and three sons, Frank and Leo (Whakatane) , and Mr. H. A. Prideaux '(Auckland), and two daughters, Miss Avice Prideaux (Whakatane) , and Mrs. i C. 'Craig (Stratford). 1
