PRESSMAN'S FLIGHT
FLYING THROUGH EAST INDIES IN SEARCH OF COPY TO VISIT AUSTRALIA CALCUTTA, Monday. Flying a Speed Mail Stearman machine called the "Flying Carpet," j on a flight round the world, Mr. Rich- , ard Halliburton, an American journalist, accompanied by Mr. Moye Stephens as his pilot, reached Calcutta on January 157 from the Himalaya Mountains, where, a few days before, they made an unsuccessful attempt to fly over the top of Mount Everest. Mr. Halliburton, who is preparing a numbei; of articles for a group of American journals, has already flown through Morocco and Tangiers, and spent some time in Timbuctoo, proeeeding to India via Cairo, Palestine and Baghdad. At Calcutta the machine will be fitted with fioats, and the Shell Com.pany has laid fuel and oil supplies for the continuation of the flight via Bangkok and Saigon through the Malay Peninsula, Borneo and Sumatra From this point the pilot will ollow the island route as far as imor, whence he will turn back to ourabaya, and from there ship the machine to Sydney and on to Tahiti. Mr. Halliburton will spend some time flying in Polynesia, and finally return to the United States by steamer.
