CREDITORS' MEETING BANKRUFT SAYS WILL ONLY DEFER TO HIGHER TRIBUNAL UNUSUAL POSITION . Creditors ih the bankrupt e'st'ate oi Herbert L. Kingsbury, farmer, bf Whirinaki, wete faced with a difficult positiOil at the second rb'eetihg held yesterday to clear up his affairs. Bankrupt took up the unusttai attitude ^ that "Go'd's law was ahove the law of man," and stating that he was prepated to stand judged by the higher tri'burial, r'efilsed to give a full list of his creditors. Bankrupt, who holds a section of land on the Guthrie Settlement, was compelled to ftle some m'onths ago, but refused 'to realise upon his sec- : tion upon the grounds that he had a divine vision instructing him not to do so. • , ■! At the previous meeting it was hnderstood that the Native Departin'eht was prepared to pay £772 for the bankr'upt's interest in his section of 197 aeres and the Official Assignee was instrueted to proceed with negotiation's upon these lihes. At yes- ' terday's m'ee'ting the bepartment, re- i presented by Mr. Sniith, agreed to complete the deal upon these terms, and it was ne'cessary to have a res'o- ' lUtioh conlirming this transaction. To put the matter in order Mr. N. ' M. Keane, seconded by the represen- ■ tative of the Farmers' Auctioheering Co., moved that the offer of purchase by the Native Department, be accepted, and this resolution was carried. | The creditors in the estate pre- ' sent were C. Byrant (Mr. Dingle) , £197 is; N. M. Keane, £5 l"0s; Farniers' Auctioneering Co., £75 2s 8d; and members of the family, Miss Kingsbury and two sons. . , Mr. Kingsbury admitted the claims ' of the family but absolutely declihed ! to give the names of any f urther crfeI ditors who might be involved. "The j Almighty will judge this case, not I the law," he declared. ' j "Some bf the 'creditors have been left out, then," said the assignee/ "Yes," replied the bankrupt, but yotl will get them at the final meeting. Official Assignee: "But do you not realise that this is a final Iheeting?" Bankrupt: "Yes, I realise more than you do. The Lord Almighty is hot subject to the laws of man," The Assignee: "Do you still refuse to declare?" Bankrupt: "Certainly. I will do the job God has given me. He is greater than your law. I am not afraid. For 30 years I have proved His truth." Bankrupt was proceeding to elaborate in this straih, when the assignee cut him short by saying: "that will do," Before the conclusion of the meet- • ing Miss Kingsbury stated, on behalf of the family, that they were firepared to stand down until other creditors were satisfied.
