BUSH FIRES CAUSE DAMAGE *' > - IN NEW PLYMOUTH.o *> .VAREAJ: * NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. Thr'eb houses at Tataraimaka/' 14 mile's frofii- New Plymouth,- were dfestroyed by hush fires this afternoon. The fire,- f anned by a south*-east.ga1e-f coyered. a-*-wide area from Oxford Road, near the -Mount Egipont fobtr hills,- across Dover and Petone' Rbads. The. houses were those of the 'Richr ardson - -Estate- ■■ on*the 'Carringt.on Road; that of Mr. Thomas Morris, together ,with a cowshed, on Petohe Road; and the residence. of Mr.' '^. Moffit, with a hay staek, at Punitb, Danger to the other houses is becoming? less. c , OTHER AREAS / Other bush lires which."" have been raging* during the past few days ard reported to he abating. In the Mana?wah% area. the danger is npw' past, while an outbreak » near the Hpka Falls at Taupo has also sUbsided. 'The position in. the King Country, in the Te Awarhutu district has also improved, * although grass fires:-, in the • Gordontown district, near Hamilton; are still causing anxiety. ■ .
