RESULTS OF BRITISH AND COLONIAL INDUSTRIES COMPETITION DISTRICT PRIZE WINNERS The results of the recent. writing competitions promoted among the schools of the South Auckland and Rotorua distriets hy the • British and Colonial Industries Association, are to hand. Pupils of Rotorua and district schools, figufe largely in the prize list, of which the district results are as follow:— Messrs. O. H. Rotorua Furnishing Co. — Special Competition : — Standards 5 to 7: First prize: Ruth Holland (Rotorua High School); 3 and 4: First prize: Verna White (Rotorua Primary) ; 1 and 2: First prize: Jean Millar (St. Michael's). Messrs. Spedding and Co. — Special Competition: — Standards 5 to 7: First prize: Melia Leonard (Ngongotaha) ; 3 and 4: First prize: Claude Frost (Rotorua Primary) ; 1 and 2 : First prize: Lucy Butt (St. Luke's, Private) . Messrs. T. J. Edmonds, Ltd. — Special Competition : — Standards 6 : First prize: Olga Whitefield (Mamaku); First prize: Annie Riddle (Paengaroa); 5: First prize: N. Tregoweth (Rotorua High School) ; 4 : First prize: R. Holland (Rotorua High School); First prize: M. Walsh (Mamaku); 3: First prize: F. Timmins (Tirau); 2: First prize: N. Williams (Valley School, Ngongotaha) ; 1: First prize: F. Holt (Rotoiti). Special Prize Awards: 1st spec: J. Patterson , (Mamaku) ; B. Standard 4: First and Special: Lola Wolfgram (Ngongotaha); 3 and 4: First prize: C. Collins (Paengaroa); second: Rita Kappely (Rotorua Public School); third: S. Sutherland (Mamaku); fourth: Mary Ellis ("Convent) ; fifth: M. Rose (Rotorua Public); sixth: Rhoda Chaplin (Rotorua Public); seventh: J. Limozin (Rotorua Public); eighth: June Roach (Rotorua Public) . Standards 6 and 7 : First prize : Loma Tregoweth (Rotorua High School) ; second: J. Patterson (Mamaku) ; third: Norma Tregoweth (High School) ; fourth: Doreen Alexander (Paengaroa) ; fifth : George Wood (Convent); sixth: Melia Leonard (Ngongotaha) ; seventh : Trece Club (Convent) ; eighth: Ino McDowell (Paengaroa). Commenting upon the standard oi the entries, the judge stated: — "The papers again exceeded in number those of previous years and my taslc of judicating was indeed a very difficult one. The quality of the writing was very good; the style and I neatness being the chief characteristics. The special competitions came in for their full share of interest and I am sure those firms who are , interested in the publication woulc 1 be very gratified indeed if they were I able to view the total number oi ; papers. I "I should lilce to congratulate the ' following schools for the interesl they took in the competition: — Rotorua Junior High School, St. Michael's Convent, Rotorua Primarj j School, St. Luke's Private School i Ngongotaha, Paengaroa, Mamaku Tirau, Valley School (Ngongotaha) Rotoiti, and a number of small native schools.
