WEEKLY PRESS CHALLENGE SHIELD HIGH SCHOOL'S SUCCESS Details are now to hand of the results of the Weekly Press Challenge Shield competition for 1931. This competition is open to all Seeondary School cadet units in New Zealand, there being two shields, one for North Island and one for South Island. The victory of the Rotorua High School for the second year is succession previously reported is a particularly meritorious one, as the shield carries the Team's Championship for New Zealand. The score of 85.2 per cent. is identical with that for 1930, and under the actiial firing conditions, indicates high efficiency, the reward of practice. Details of the scores of the first 21 teams, show a wide divergenee, the 21st team registering 70.8 per cent. The general Officer commanding the N.Z. Military forces comments that the standard is rising, and makes special mention of the fine performance of the local team. The ten leading scores in the competition were : — Rotorua High School 85.2 per cent, Christchurch Technical College 84.2 Matamata Junior High School 83.3, St. Andrew's College (No 4 Team) 81.4, St. Andrew's College (No. 2 Team) 80.5, St Patrick's ' College (Wellington) 79.8, Petone Technical College 79, Auckland Grammar School 77.8, Auckland Technical College 77.4, St Andrews College (No. 3 Team) 77.3. The engraving of the shieds will be undertaken localiy, and when this has been done, the shieds will be displayed, as last year in the window of the Rotorua Furnishing Company, although no definate date has yet been fixed. The names of the members of the winning team are:— Sergeant R. S. Broolcer, Corporal W. E. Higgins, Cpl. K. L. Park, Cpl. J. F. A. Robertson, Cadet D. M. McNab, Cadet G. R. Hampson, Cadet W. L. Dorset, Cadet B. C. T. Cooper, Bugler C. A. Frost, Drunimer R. B. Dawson.
