JACK HOLT AGAIN
COMING TO GRAND IN COLUMBIA' "LAST PARADE." "The Last Parade," Columbia's latest screen atraetion, moves rapidly towards an unexpected, startling dramatic, climate. "The Last Parade" screens at the Grand Theatre on February 4, 5 and 6. Based on an interesting theme, the plot is logically and convincingly deyeloped. Realism is the dominant note; although thrills abound, they are the natural outcome of a wellconstructed story. Interest centres around Cookie Leonard and Mike O'Dowd, both of whom fall in love with Molly Pearson, a pretty nurse. After the Armistice, Mike is reinstated in his job as a policeman, but Cookie, a former newspaper reporter, finds that another man has taken his place. Driven by want, he hi-jacks a liquor truck, and, through a series of startling ev'ents, becomes a notorious gangster. Molly and Mike endeavour to save him from himself, but he kills a rival racketeer and the law intervenes. A big factor that aided the picture's excellenee was Jack Holt's portrayal of Cookie Leonard. His performance was splendid, although the role was entirely different from the strong, silent types he usually portrays. Tom Moore was convincing as Mike O'Dowd, an amusing and likeable Irshiman. And Constance Cummings was capable and alluring as Molly Pearson. Other interesting characters were played by Gaylord Pendleton, Robert Ellis, and Vivi. Erle C. Kenton is to be congratulated on his skilful direction.
