MAJESTIC
TO-NIGHT Universal's sparkling farce,- "The Virtuous Husband," screening to-day and to-night at the Majestic Theatre, with Elliot Nugent, Betty Compson, and Jean Arthur playing the important roles, should offer one of the season's funniest plots, if its theme, the stage play, "Apron Strings," is a criterion. The picture concerns a beautiful young lady, one Barbara Olwell, who becomes engaged to a wealthy, young bachelor, Daniel Curtis, whose tranquil life includes neither the major nor minor vices and whose life is guided by a series of letters for every occasion left by his mother. Two weeks after their marriage, Barbara returns to her parents' home,
presumably for good, explaining her dusband has acted outrageously. To add insult to injury, he has constantly censured her conduct by reading extracts from his mother's letters. Ezra Hunniwell, a lawyer and Daniel's guardian steps into the breach, and assuring himself that Barbara really cares for Daniel, decides he must rid himself of his inhibitions and the remaining -trunkfull of offending letters left by his mother. Barbara's mother, father, and friend Inez have the same idea about disposing of Daniel's trunk of letters at one and the same time and the ensuing farce is highly amusing. J. C. Nugent, Allison Skipworth, Tully Marshall, and the coloured discovery, "Sleep-'n'Eat," also apjpear in the cast, and Vin Moore directed.
