Prospects ',are parti'cularly bright for the summer meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Cluh, with the possibility of large attendances attracted by the ferry trip over the harbour, the five shilling totalisator and the knowledge that they all get an ex cellent i/i'ew of the cont'ests. Unless rain falls the tracks will be hard for tb-day's and to-rndrrow's racing. In the opening event, the Trial Handicap, there is very little f orm to go up'on, those with the brightest chances appearing to be Operatie, Merry Lu, j Hawthorn arid Golden Spahi, with fair ! eft'orts expected from Daycoma, Kirid i Words, Cliek Clack and Ruling King. I Probably the best backed will be Arnj ber Link, Merry Lu, Hawthorn and I Operatie. i If Alloy and Brbhze Tray, both of | whom are also engaged later in the day, are started in the Orewa HighWeight, they will not lack sUpport, for they both have speed and can stick on. Luminary is about due, and Tarporley wdh in a similar class here a couple of months ago. Good Idea won easily from a tired lot at Kawakawa, and KairUri rriay be ■ ia better prospect judged on his reeently improved form. Patutahi, Neil and Grea't femblem have chances, but one comes back to Alloy and Kairuri, with Bronze Tray an'd Luminary the dangerous elehients. Huntingdon in Sprint. Early business says that the promoted hack Huntingdon will he the favourite for the sprint, the Steward's Haridicap. The handicapper has taken ab's'olutely no chahces with him, and within a few pounds of proved performers in Leitrim and Refresher (the latt'et was considered by his connections to have been most unlucky in the A.R.C. Railway Handicap) he will certainiy b'e tried right out. Paganehi is in with a luxurious impost, and High Comedy disappointed at Trentham, where his form was mediocre. Marechal has two Thames successes to go upon, with the prospect that "this field will find him out. The Tea Chat-Royal Ruler bracket represents a fairly strong combination, and Ch'rohiady'he has only to strike a soft course to be a nuisance. The former has not been performing convincingly on the hard tracks, despite her form at Thames. Antique was thought to have actually beaten Chief Joy at Ellerslie, and as he ought to be a very much improved horse now his chances are bright. Sir M'ond and Limeen can be fahcied, with the unreliable Brampton, Bronze Tray and Grand Talk possessing minor prospects. Antique, Volimond, Limeen and . Sir Mond should be the pick. The .best field of the day is undoubtedly that engaged in the Ferry Handicap, the hack sprint that has drawn a wealth of hacks of the best class. It is difficult to choose between Hoihoma, Karangapai, Knight 'of Australia and Teels and Royal Gallant would not disgrace any hack sprint field. This quintette will make matters very merry round the turns. Of the others, Ganpat, Princess Bede, Gay Idea, Psychologist, Escalus, Brazanna ahd Silene cannot be overlooked, but the quintette first mentioned are going to he very difficult to beat, and they are fahcied as "written. Unimpressive Two-Year-Old's. It is a long time since such a moderate lot of twd-year-brds was scheduled to contest the Calliope Handicap, with Miss Lorraine, Gigantic and Foreign Money the only ones with recent form gbod enoUgh to commend themselves to backers. Belltopper is the goods, but it remains to be seen whether he is ready yet. Whakapafe heads the Hauraki Hack field, and this will be his first effort over a ihiddle journey. However, he has always finished on in his races, and he should do well here. Alloy may be a trouble if reserved, and King's Knave and Snow Prince also

On top is Paganelli, who will find this event easier than the sprint if he is kept for it. Eager Rose arid Chief Joy are recent winners, while Royal Artis.t and White Wings have gone their best races on this track. Puriri Park has been galloping hrilliantly at Ellerslie, and Karangapai if kept for this wiill be a nuisance. Karangapai is best fancied, with Eager Rose, Chief Joy and White Wings possibilities. On Saturday another of the popular hack classics, the Wynyard Plate, will he decided. Among the most difficult to beat in this will be Karangapai, Chief Jewel and Jalldy Karo.
