NEGLECTED OPPORTUNITY
CANADIAN'S ADYICE TO NEW ZEALAND. A party of Canadian tourists who spent the holiday period motoring in Marlborough, were directed to the Picton-Grove track and have gone away ravihg about the beauties of that route and full of astonishment that the people of New Zealand have not long ago insisted on lts conversion into a decent motor road. (states the Marlborough Express). "Why," said oue of the party, "if we had your sounds in Canada, we'd have a double-width road not only frdiii Picton td HaVeldek, hut right along the top of the hilis from one end of the sounds to the other, and people would come from all parts of the world to see the view. A road along the sky-line . df your sounds is worth millions to New Zealand, but, gee! your Government is slow!" That seems to be just it. Th'e Government of the Dominioh has always been so engrossed with the attraction of visitors to the thermal regions, and to one or two other localities, that wonderful resorts like the sounds are neglecfed. What a chance of profitably employing two or three thousand unemployed on 'distinctly reproductive work is offered hy following up the Canadian's suggestion!
