Lorry Driver Fined A lorry driver named Sam Chase, who appeared before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Rotorua Magistrate's 'Court yesterday morning was fined & 2 for driving a lorry in excess of the maximum weight of 2| tons allowed for the Atiamuri road. The county trafixc inspector, Mr. D. M. Ford, stated that Chase's lorry had been carrying a load of posts and weighed 4 tons 8 cwt. Fine O:nion Crop Photographs of an exceptional crop of onions grown at Maketu by Mrs. H. Tai Mitchell have been shown to the "Post." The crop comprises a small plot of 2,000 plants, which were planted out only 11 weeks ago, but its total weight is estimated at not less than half a ton. Repairs to 'Plane Rotorua Airways Puss Moth cabin nronoplane, which is at present undergoing repairs in Auckland, will shortly be back in commission. During the interval Flying Officej.- Matheson has been using a Gypsy Moth biplane on loan, and this will be flown back to Auckland when the monoplane's repairs are completed. Good Fishing at Taupo. Although there are exceptionally few anglers at Taupo at present, Jast Saturday provided some exceptionally good bags. Messrs Whiting and Dove of Auckland with Messrs Findlay and Hendry, fishing at Whakaipo Bay, landed 60 fish for the day, a limit for four rods, while at Waitahanui, Mr Daly of, Napier landed his limit inclpding one fish which turned the scales at lOllbs. Band Concert. The Rotorua Miinicipal Band will give a recital in the Government Gardens this evening. Lieut. E. Tregilgas will conduet and many 'pleasing and beautiful selections are promised. Flight from Kaikohe. A Puss Moth. piloted by Mr. E. Mills, of Auckland, lapde.d at; the Rotorua aerodrome yesterday morning. Mr. Mills had- with him as passenger Mr. S. Jolly. The aeroplane had flown through to Rotorua, from Kaikohe in the Bay of tsiands, where it returned last evening, Mr. Jolly going back with it. Relief Workers' Concert. The hewly formed Rotorua Relief Workers' Association, have organised a concert, with a strong and entertaining programme, to be- held in the Majestic Theatre on Sunday evening commencing at 8.30 p.m. A small charge is to be made and the proceeds are to be divided between the Rotorua Womens' Club and the Rotorua Relief Committee, for the alleviation of distress! Items during the evening will be given by the Municipal Band, Miss Del Thompson, Epi Shalfoon's Melody Boys, the "Four Darky Knights" x (Plant(ation Melodies), and "The Majestic Quintette." New Waiotapu Hotel. The Rotorua Licensing .Committee yesterday visited the Waiotapu Hotel for the puxpose of inspecting the new premises and considering the application of the licensee, Mr. Clive McQuinlan, for a new license. The hotel has now been removed to its new site on the main Taupo Road and completely new premises erected. In the earlier days of the district, the old hopse oif the main route, was the regular half-way stop between Rotorua and Taupo and many travellers from Rotorua in past years have breakfasted there. In those days, the journey from Rotorua to Waiotapu often occupied over two hours — the time now required for the complete trip to Taupo. Anniversary Day Outing A very pleasant day is promised at Cochrane Park on Anniversary Day when a novel beach carnival and pic nic outing has been organised by Mr J. W. Cochrane. Maoi'i canoe pois staged in the appropriate setting of the Ohau Channel, an interesting programme of water sports, horse swimming races, and many other attractive novelties will go to make up the programme, Since his very suecessful carnival on New Year's Day Mr C.ochrane has erected attractive rustic picnic shelters on the beach and once again all the faeilities of a well equipped canteen and the tea-rooms will be available. Does Not Like the Flavour. The recent announcement by the Unemployment Board that unemployed workers would he exjpected to assist themselves by growing vegetables in their own time is not finding favour with some men who are out of work, says a Hawke's Bay paper. At a meeting.of the Taradale Town, Board the clerk stated that a section had been offered to Qne man for the purpose of growing vegetables, but he had no desire to assist himself in that way, and stated that he did not like the flavpur of potatoes grow.n in Taradale. He had suggested to him that possibly his wife and family "might have quite a liking for them, but the man was not prepared to take the risk.
