CAR AND BICYCLE
MOTORIST CONVICTED AND FINED AS RESULT OF ACCIDENT A plea of guilty on both counts was entered by Rosa Mary Smith, a widow, of Rotorua, who was charged in the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., with driving in a manner dangerous to the public and with cutting the corner from Fenton Street into Eruera Street contrary to the borough by-laws. The case arose out of an accident at the intersection on January 9
when a car driven by Mrs Smith collided with a boy on a cycle. Senior Sergeant Carroll, for the police, said that defendant had cut ihe corner and had knocked the boy off lis cycle. The car was practically at a standstill at the time of the accident but the bicycle was thrown over and damaged. Mr. J. D. Davys, who appeared for Mrs Smith, said that as many motorists did, Mrs Smith took the angle of the corner, but allowing a wide margin of safety. The boy had his lead down and was not looking where le was going. Mrs Smith was comoelled to swing over towards the vrong side in order to avoid him when he lad looked up just as he was in i'ront of the car. The boy was not
lurt and the machine was not badly lamaged. The defendant was fined £2 with ;0 /- costs on the charge of dangerms driving, and was convicted and '•rdered to pay costs on the charge of rntting the corner.
