CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE MEETS KEEN ADVANCE OF ONE PENNY

-By Telegraph — Copyright)

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The second Christchurch wool sale of the season Was held to-day, when a catalogue of 25,087 bales was offered a representative bench of buyers. Tfee offering comprised a good selec tion of wool, well grown and brigiit in condition. Buying was animated from the outset and immediately dispelled any fear that there would be a repetition of the disappointing Auckland sale. France and Germany secured a heavy proportion of the catalogue, with Bradford also lifting a fair average quantity. Local mills made the pace for all super wools and were the primary cause of the advance. Japanese buying was very restrieted, and America was practieally out of the market. An advance of one penny was reeorded in practieally all classes of fine wools. The most noticeable improvement was in wool which in Deeember averaged 7id to 8Jd, and today sold at from 8id to l()d. Most of the coarse wool sold round about 4d to 4£d. A fair proportion failed to reach even 4d, and only oecasionally reached 5id. Passings represented about five per eent. of the offerings. The best price oi] the day was 13Sd for Corriedale ewe. The top price for halfbred was 12ld and Merino realised the same figure.
