Rec. Jan. 24, 5.0 p.m. NEW YORK, Saturday. The "New York Times" Washington eorrespondent states that the landing of Japanese forces in Shanghai tb-day, caused apprehension here, because of the added complieation it might produce in the Sino-Japanese controversy over Manchuria, and the possibility that it might lead to difficulties with other powers through unt'oward incidents. The Under-Secretary for State, Mr Gastle, discussed the situation with President Hoover, after which it was announced that the Government would make no direct move at present.
