COMMISSIONER SAYS POLICE FORCE AT PRESENT UNDER-STAFFED CLOSING OF TRAINING DEPOT
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
WELLINGTON, Thursday. "Owing- to the normal number of retirements during the last 18 months or two years, the force is now below strength," said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. G. Wohlmann, to a reporter to-day.
The training depot has been closed for the last 18 months, and owing to the economic position, there is no present intention of re-opening it. Since the police depot at Wellington was closed on account of expense, no trainees have entered the police force, and with the retirement of a •number of men who have completed their term of service and qualified for superannuation, the force has become somewhat under-staffed.
