WORLD'S LARGEST TRUCK

The world's largest truck, so long that it has a telephone at each end, •arried the world's largest girder .hrough the streets of London. The girder, which is part of the aew Cumberland Place Hotel, which is being erected opposite Marble Arch, took a day to be loaded on the truck. For another day, the street vvas closed to traffic while a turntable was^built on the road to swing the girder into position in the building. The immense truck cost nearly £9,000 to build. It has 30 wheels on which there are £950 worth of tyres. There is a steering apparatus at the back as well as at the front, and each end is equipped with a telephone, by which the driver 'at the front can talk to his mate at the back.
