A story showing the diffleulty of getting the better of George Bernard ; Shaw in an argument was told at the conference of master .printers in London recently. G.B.S., it was said, received a letter from a womaii, ask- : ing for a free copy of "The Intelligent Woman's Guide to Socialism." He wrote at the bottom of the letter. 'Damn it, no! 'Any women's society that cannot alford to pay 15s for my hook has no fi4*ht to ex-ist. He signed this and returned it* to the writer of the application. A fortnight later she wrote t'o tell Shaw that a publisher had given her a copy of the hook in exchange for his letter. Shaw Wrote across the bottom of the woman's second letter1: "What fools women are! If you had taken the letter to' the right plaoe you would have got £50 for it." Three weeks ago envelopes which were carried .by Captain M. C. McGregor on his air- mail flight from Invercargill to Auckland were worth . no more than sixpenee. They are now worth as m'uch as 10s and 15's; and are expected to rise steadily in value, says' the Ghristchurc'h Times. * It might be gathered from this fact that the collection and selling of covers . flowii on air mail' 'flights was a profit'able dccupation; but it is pointed out that with every new air rriail there is a large increase in the number cf letters sent, and their value is correspondinglydecreased. .
