Rec. Jan. 18, 7.10 p.m . .... NEW YORK, Sunday. ' Rear-Admiral Byrd, addressing the . Explorers' Club; revealed that in his forthcoming expedition to the Antarctic, he intends to establish a subbase in the interior -of the continent dt the foot of the Queen Maude i mbuntairi r'ange and to spend the -winter there making scientific observations. ■ ! ' He disclosed that he had already Star'ted active preparations for- his ; next trip. "Friends have promised me ' a ship for it, 'and already I have 35 tons • of as^orted equipment at the. Boston Navy Yard," he said. 1 The chief objectives of the undertaking are to determine whether-there is a chaniiel 'between the Ross Sea And the Weddell Sea, and explore by air the unknown area east of the Pole. ! "We will not announce when we are gb'ing," he'said. "We are. busy now with" scientific data of our last trip and do not want to set! out for a new expedition until we have finished with the old one."
