BRUTAL ASSAULT
"COCKATOO" CHARLIE ATTACKED WITH IRON BAR. DARWIN, Saturday. A brutal.ly tragic assault was cbmmitted last week upon an aged and partially deaf aboriginal, "Cockatoo" Ch'arlie, allegedly by a police boy. The viofim has since died. . The police boy had been Used to seeure convictions against aboriginals,f°r the possession of opium and liquor. The allegatioh is that lae attacked "Cockatoo" Charlie with an iron bar, or waddy, strikirig him ih the ribs. while two other aboriginals held his arms. A white resident called upon theth to ■ desist, and the natives walked off; Ibavixig. the vietim on the ground. He crawled to a blacks- carhp. The aboriginai version of the affair is given thus. — "Police boy been bustum something inside, and blood come up."
