T. Jackson, on . Thursday evening, and to form a relief workers' .ass'oeiation. The meef- ^ ing was opened by Mr Daniels and; : Mr: W. Lovie was voted to the chair. , Mr. Lovie briefly dutlined what the * Mayor " had tOld the delegation and emphasised that Mr. Jackson and his colleagues on the Rotorua Unemployment Relief Committee had done and were st|ll doing everything that was in their power to help. -J He then explained the reasons for the institution of the five day week scheme. He ppinted out that though the relief workers in Rotorua had to work more days, they were at least in the fortunate position of having a guarantee of the maximum payments allowed per week for the next two months. Special reference was made by the ; chairman to what he deseribed as the "gopd fight for the unemployed put . up by Mr. Jackson, and " the other mem,b,e.rs of the committee," when discussing relief questions with the • members of the Unemployment Board,. who recently visited Rotorua. Mr. Lovie then outlined the value of a relief workers' association, saying that by the formation pf such," an oTganisation they would have some' definite standing when dealing with the various relief committees and ;; such organisations. As the association would be representative of them all, he said, it would have to be listened to. . Others present also stressed the value of getting together for their own benefit. On the motion of the chairman it ; was decided to form an association % to be known as the Rotorua Relief Workers' Association, the following - officers being elected: President, Mr-. R. Carnacban; vice-president, Mr. S. Hogg; secretary, Mr. R. Daniels; treasurer, Mr. W. J. Alexander; delegate to the Relief Committee, Mr. W._ Lovie; executive member, Mr. A. M.*" Darling. It was decided that a general meeting be held every alternative Saturday at 2.30 p.m., and in the event oto. a majority of the members being at work, at 7 p.m. The meetings are to : be held in the community garden de- - pot. At the conclusion of the meeting a motion was carried unanimously, ^ "That this meeting of the Rotorua Relief Workers' Association extends to his Worship the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, and his colleagues on the loeal unemployment committee our thanks and appreciation of their efforts^ on our behalf in the recent negotiations with the visiting members of the Unemployment Board."
