DIED FROM EXPOSURE
verdict at inquest on trampers SEARCHERS' WORK COMMENDED
CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Mr. Loney repeated his story at the inquest held at Bealey to-night before Mr. Fitzgerald, J.P., and a jury. The following verdict was returned. "We find that Messrs. Smith and Robbins died at Harman Pass on or about January 11, while endeavouring to cross the Pass to^the Carrington hut, the cause of death being exposure following exhaustion in a storm." A rider was added commending the V'ork of the search party, particularly that of Messrs J. P. Wilson, H. M. Sweney and F. W. Cochrane. and Constable Ross. Sympathy was extended to the relatives of the unfortunate trampers.
