ORDINARY MONTHLY MEETING TAKES PLACE ON WEDNESDAY.
GENERAL BUSINESS At the monthly meeting of the Rotorua County Council on Wednesday, Mr. H. P. Ford presided and Crs. A. L. Keith, J. E. Martin, J. J. Smythe and R. C. Smith were present. The inspecting officer of the JPublic Works Department wrote claiming £50 collected by the Council in traffic fines. The clerk reported that he had informed the iDepartment that under agreement there was nothing due on fines collected prior to January, 1931, except a sum of £5. The Department had agreed to the adjustment. # The Commissioner of Transport is to be informed of the legal restrictions as regards both speed and weight which the Council considers should be taken into account by the transport licensing authorities. The treasurer reported that receipts since last meeting had amounted to £2154 19s 2d, bringing the total receipts for the current year up to £16,996 13s lOd. Accounts /passed j for payment totalled £1836 18s lld, j bringing expenditure for the year up to £16,645 7s 4d. ! It was resolved to apply to the Public Works Department_for the following balances for highway maintenance: — Maraeroa Road, £30; Tau- | ranga-Rotorua, £12& 2s 2d; RotoruaMatata, £30 19s 6d. I
The proclamation of a road through Blocks III, IV and VII, Rotoiti, was agreed to. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to comply with the request of the Ngongotaha School Committee for stumping and levelling in the school grounds. The engineer was given power to act. The engineer, in his report, stated that Windley had completed his pumicing contract on Wairoa Road. The bridge is to be replaced by concrete I pipeS. Mr. T. J. Johnstone asked for consideration of the proposed road crom Utuhina Stream to Kawaha Point. Pikowai Road between Hamilton Road and the Whakatane-Rotorua Jounty boundary is being widened mcl corners removed. Specifications lave been forwarded to the district Bngineer for metalling portions of Pentral Road, Ngongotaha streets and Dkere-Hamurana Road. An average jf 24 men have been working on dif.erent farms clearing ragwort, scrub. olackberry and draining; others have oeen employed on various roads.
