RESIGNATION OF PORTFOLIOS RECEIVED BY PREMIER SUCCESSOR NOT YET SELECTED

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, announced to-day that the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture and Mines, the Hon. D. Jones, has been received. "Nothing has been done yet regarding Mr. Jones's' successor," said Mr. Forbes. "That will be gone into when I see the Minister of Publie Works, (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Goates) when I go to Wellington. "Whatever happens," he continned, "I can say .definitely that there will be no inerease in the size of Cabinet. We wish to avoid as much extra expenditure as possible. I shall discuss the political position with Mr. Coates, and find out who is his appointee. The Reform members of the Coalition Cabinet were appointed Jbefore on the ;recOmmendation of Mr. Coates, and seeing that a Reform er has resigned, -Mr. Coates will again make the recommendation."
