YESTERDAY'S RUN
"ENTERPRISEJJ RUNS AWAY FROM FAST CARS GOOLING SATISFACTORY A ■' message broadcast last- night through the YA stations from. the Bost; Qfiice station ZLE on the NinetyMile B'each, described the test run made by Mr. Smith in the "E enterprise" yesterday afternoon. It was stated that should conditions remain favourable, an attempt will be made by Mr. Smith to capture the world's ten mile land speed record at .7 a.m. on Wednesday. It was also stated that it is not.probable that the flying mile will now be attempted before January 24. The , present state of the beach and other- .conditions are described as being not fav.ourable to an attempt on this record at present. Describing yesterday's run, the ^message stated that the "Enterprise" was towed from the garage on to the ; beach by a truck, to which it was | shackled by a special coupling which ■ .automatically- disconnected when the ! ; racing machine's engine took up the : load. ■ , I When the "Enterprise" began to ■pick up speed touring cars travelling at over 50 m.p.h. were quickly left jbehind. ■ The condition of the beach fproved to be good and the "Enter--prise" was soon running at 125 j m.p.h. , | After the trial the engine of the \ "Enterprise" was described as very cool, and the alteration to.the cooling system, including the new radia;tor, which was made and fitted in New iZealand, gave every satisf action.
