MR. LYON'S DOUBLE
MAN WHO IS MISTAKEN FOR AUSTRALIA'S PRIME MINISTER. Sydney has a double of Mr. Lyons, and so striking a double that Tasmanians follow him round the stfeets and refuse to be comforted when their beloved Joseph fails to recognise them. He is Mr. William Chambers, t^p agent for the British Phosphate Commissioners, Spring Street, Sydney. Since the election campaign com- , menced Mr. Chambers has had many amusing experiences. Recently he was dining at a well j known restaurant when an equally i well known divine left his table, and j crossing the floor, warmly grasped Mr. Chamber's' hand and said, "My dear chap, I wish you every Success. It is men like you we look to on Sai turday." The minister looked unj comfortable when he suddenly realisi ed his error. I On Saturday morning a Tasmanian stopped him outside a big Pitt Street j building. Mr. Chambers was cornerI ed, and after submitting to a hearty j handshake and a spine-shattering slap, tried to excuse himself with the remark that someone was mistaken. "But? Joe I knew you and the missus for years and years in Tassy. ' You can't put this over me. You are i Joe Lyons." I Political meetings were always a I sure spot for further misunderstanding, and at Mosman one night he heard an qld woman remark, after he had taken a seat, "What fearful stories we hear over the air. They said Mr. Lyons had gone to Tasma- * nia, and here he is here." 11 1 _ _ 1 1 m
