VICTIM A JAPANESE YOUTH ACCUSED OF BRUTAL CRIME STRIPPED, TORTURED AND SHOT

Rec. Jan. 10, 11 p.m. WASHINGTON, Saturday. The Victim of the Honolulu lynching was Joseph Kahahawai, a Japattqse youth, who was accused of being One of five who criminally assaulted Mrs Massie, a naval officer's wife last September. ~ The police say the youth was Carried into Mrs Fortescue's residence, stripped and tortured and thrust into a bath in order to get a ConfessiOn. He was then shot and the body was taken away in a car driven hy Mrs Forteseue, who is the grand mother of Mrs Massie (and not her mother, as previously cabled) and in which Was also the latter's husband. The assault created a sensation and for months past there has been a plot among naval officers to seek revenge for assaults by natives on white women.
