LAKE SWIM

MR. ANSELL BREAKS OWN TIME FROM MOKOIA TO ROTORUA WATER YERY COLD Another breast-stroke swim from Mokoia Island in Lake Rotorua to the town wharf was made' by Mr. Frederic George Ansell, of Auckland, yesterday afternoon, when he beat his previous time by nearly 25 minutes. Mr. Ansell entered the water near Hinemoa's Bath soon after mid-day and completed the journey of nearly 41 miles in two hours five minutes 52 4-5s seconds as against two hours 30 minutes 10 4-5 seconds on the former occasion. He was timed on the swim by two watches held by Messrs. E. R. Pickering and T. Hall, both of Auckland. Mr. Ansell told the "Post" that the water in the lake was exceedingly cold in patches and that there was a chilly undercurrent practically all the way. In comparison with salt water, he said, the water in the lake was exceedingly hard to swim in as it lacked life and buoyancy. As he approached the wharf he was applauded by a crowd of between 60 and 70 people, who congratulated him on his success. An attempt to set a time from Hamurana to Rotorua will be made by Mr. Ansell in the near future.
