CHARGE OF THEFT FROM BLENHEIM FARMERS CO-OP. GUILTY OF RECEIVING

BLENHEIM, Thurs. A sentence of six months' imprisonment with hard labour, awaited Francis Thomas Kennedy, aged 39 years, of Blenheim, carpenter, when he apT peared at the Police Court this morriing before Justices, coirfronted by a , series of three charges. In the first instance he is alleged to have committed the theft on November 7 of a quantity of clothing froih the Farmers' Co-op. at Blenheim to a total value *of £16 10s 4d. A list of articles, sounding like the stock sheets of a soft goods store, included a rug, an overcoat, a suit of elothes, three pairs of shoes, seven pairs of socks, a couple of shirts, a singlet, a hat, a cap, a tie, a pair of braces, and a bedroom clock. He was further charged with receiving the goods enumerated, well knowing them to have been dishonestly ohtained. The third charge alleged that oh October 6, at Port Nelson, when he incurred a debt to Hans Mathias Anderson of £5- 5s, he obtained credit by fraud. Kennedy pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft, but admitted the charge of receiving. As a result Sergeant Petersen, who eondueted the prosecution, applied to withdraw the theft charge, the application being granted. * On the receiving charge, qecused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and on the charge of obtaining credit by fraild, to one month, to he concurrent with the prevfous sentence.
