Rec. Jan. 8, 12.48 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. Air Commodore Kingsford Smith left Hamble at 8 a.m. to-day. Ile is calling at le Bourget to inquire about the state of the weather. If it is favourable he hopes to reach Rome today. In addition to the co-pilot, Mr. Allen, the Southern Star carried Mr. F. Taylor, the engineer who is replacing Mr. Hewitt as a member of the crew. Mr. Hewitt accompanied Air Commodore Kingsford Smith to England and is now attached to the Imperial Airways.
