WASHINGTON, Wednesday. A resolution seeking the impeachment of 'Mri A. W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury, has been introdtrced into the' House of Representative^, by Mr Patman, Democrat representative for Texa!s. He said: "On myown responsibility I impeach Mr. Andrew Mellon of high crimes. and misdemeanours." The'Uousa sat tense, and still as Mr. Patman spoke, facing a chamber crowded with representatives, who had 'just answered. the roll call. Mr. Patman based his charges on a Statute of 1789 forbidding the Treasury head from engaging in commerce. He said: "Mr. Mellon owns to. holding stock in 300 corporatibns with combined assets of three billion dollars." He criticised the granting of tax refunds to concerns in which Mr. Mellon owns a share, and said Mr. Mellon received profits from the sale of distilled whisky. Stating that Mr. 1v| ellon was the principal owner of an aluminium company in America, he declared that more aluminium Was now used in the construction of public buildings than ever before. The resolution was refferred to the House judiciary committee by a viva voce vote. The House adjourned immediately afterwards without anyone answering Mr. Patman's accusations.
