UNEMPLOYMENT POSITION

Beductions in the numbers of men engaged on forestry and Public Works in the district have resulted in a further increase *in the unemployment registrations for Rotorua. These now total 450, and all men are at present working under one or other of the different unemployment schemes. The new arrangement introduced by the Unemployment Board, under which all men will wofk five days a week, will come into operation next week. Under this new arrangement, all men in the two-day class (single men) will worlc five days for 18/-, men in the three-day class, will receive _ £ 1 17s 6d a week for a similar period, and four-day men, £2 10s, these amounts being considered not as wages, but as sustenance . grants caleulated in accordance with the men's responsibilities and the amount of money available to the Unemployment Board.
