COMMONWEALTH'S FINANCIAL POSITION NOW SECURE COUNTRY'S PARAMOUNT TASK
-By Telegraph— Copyright).
Rec. Jan. 5, 11.15 p.m. CANBERRA, Tuesday. The retiring Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. Scullin, at the conclusion of the final meeting of his Cabinet to-day, said he cheerfully bowed to * the will of the people. He hoped that prosperity would soon return to the Commonwealth. He felt like a schoolboy free from cares of office. Mr. Scullin said that he could say definitely that the financial position of the Commonwealth was now secure and that the trade balance was exceptionally favourable. The Budget position was satisfactory and with the fear of default removed, those engaged in industry should be able to strike out with a little more confidence and seize on the paramount task that confronted the country, namely the absorption of the unemployed. The new Government could count on his utmost.assistance to this end.
