Lyons is- unable officially to announce the new Federal Ministry, owing to absence of replies to ' notifications telegraphed to members of the House of Representatives. i However, it has been ascertained that the allbtment of portfolios will be as follows. — • Prime Minister and Treasurer, Mr. Lyons. Attorney-General and Minister of External Affairs, also Deputy Leader of the Government, Mr. J. G. Latham. i Minister of Defence and Leader of the Government in the Senate, Sir George Pearce. : ; Minister of Trade and Customs, Mr Gullett. Postmaster-General and probable Minister of Works and Railways, Mr J. E- Fenton. Minister of Markets, Mr. Hawker. Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Parkill. Minister of Health, Mr. Marr. - Vice-President of the Executive Council and probable Minister in Charge of Development, Senator Lachlan. , .. Four honorary Ministers are to be selected from Messrs S. M. Bruce, W. Massey Greene, Perkins and Francis. Mr. Lyons, as leader of the United Australia Party, issued a New . Year message in which he described the year 1931 as a year of hardship and disappointment and expressed the opinion that the new year will bring brighter days. He appealed to the people of the Commonwealth to face the future with courage, with a full sense of responsibility and with a determination to restore conditions of prosperity and greater happiness. He assured the people that the Government will leave no stone unturned to get as many people back to employment as is humanly possible.
