MR JENKINS' CRITICISM DESCRIBED AS RIDICULOUS "TEAM OF SPORTSMEN"
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
LONDON, Thursday. Rep lying to Mr. H. R. Jenkins' (New Zealand) criticism of the All Blacks' team as "pot hunters," Mr. C. W. Packford, in "Sporting Life," says: The statement is ridiculous. There are no joys derivable from playing rugger these days. " Personally he had learned to love the New Zealanders. It was like Palestine in war time. They were just as concerned on the playing' field as on the battlefields to uphold their country's prestige. Some games were not played in kid gloves and a few isolated incidents are inseparable in the case of such well trained giants, yet there was nothing harmful to the best traditions of the game. To suggest otherwise is intolerable and unforgiveable. Porter's team was a magnificent machine; it was composed of sportsmen. Fancy a man like Mark Nicholls being regarded otherwise.
