COLLISION WITH CAR WHEN CYCLING ACROSS STREET ACCIDENT IN ROTORUA Consternation was caused at the interseetion of Hinemoa and Fenton Streets about three o'clock yesterday afternoon when a small boy, Max Tyler aged 12 years, son of Mr. and Mrs T. Tyler, of Easson StreeE who was riding a bicycle across the corner, was struck and run over by a motor car, -driven by Miss Helen Carson, of Gisborne who was turning to the left from the direction of Whakarewarewa. The child was rushed by one of the taxi drivers on the Hinemoa Street stand to Dr. W. S. Wallis where his injuries were attended to. His condition is not eonsidered serious. According to a statement made to the police the vehicle occupied by the owner Mr. Mervyn Thomas Baird Hall, Miss Helen Carson, and Miss Crawford, all of Gisborne, was coming round the corner slowly from Fenton Street into Hinemoa Street

when a boy on a bicycle suddenly appeared in front of the car and it was impossible to avoid hitting him. The boy, as shown by the bicycle tracks and the statements of witness, was riding along the cycle track from the direction of the Grand Hotel and had reached the eentre of the road when someoile called out to him, distracting his attention and causing- him to swerve up Hinemoa Street. He then straightened the machine up again to proceed along Fenton Street and ' turned straight into the front of the car. He was knocked flat on the road and the car passed over him, though fortunately he was apparently rnissed by the wheels. The bicycle was run over and badly damaged. The car was immediately stopped and the child, who was still conscious, commenced to crawl out from under the back of the vehicle, being assisted by Mr. W. T. Pakes who was a witness to the accident. Blood was flowing freely from gashes on his face and head, which were severely lacerated. Dr. Wallis after attending to the boy's injuries, said thah they were not serious, but ordered his removal immediately by ambulanc'e to Kin'g George V. Hospital.
