auckland team to meet otago on new year's day MILLS STRENGTHENS BATTING

AUCKLAND, Wed. Two changes have been made in the Auckland representative cricket team which will meet Otago in the Plunket Shield match, commencing at Eden Park on New Year's Day. J. E. Mills will replace D. C. Cleverley, who is not available, and W. Smith will take the place of R. W. Rowntree as wicket-keeper. The Auckland -selectors, Messrs N. C. Sneddon, H. Duncan and W. Broolt Smith, announced the team this morning as follows: — G. L. Weir (Eden), captain, J. E. Mills (Eden) , H. D. Gillespie (Eden) , A. J. Postles (Eden), P. E. Whitelaw (Parnell), S. C. Hay (Parnell), A. W. McCoy (Parnell), H. G. Vivian (Parnell), A. M. Matheson (University), W. Smith (Y.M.C.A.), T. Lyon (Y.M.C.A.) . R. Frater (Y.M. C.A.) will again he twelfth man. The inclusion of Mills, who was not available for the Wellington match, will materially strengthen the batting of the team.
